Status is PULS
LOUISE SPARRE
Status is PULS is a site-specific exhibition taking its point of departure in the pulse, i.e. our heart rhythm.
When the heart contracts, it pumps blood into the blood vessels. Each pump is called a heartbeat and a heartbeat equals pulse.
High pulse rate
Normal pulse rate
Resting pulse rate
There are two circulations in the body, a big and a small one. Via the big circulation the heart pumps fresh oxygeneous blood out into the body, whilst the small circulation, the pulmonary circulation, pumps oxygen poor blood to the lungs.
The blood is an inner conveyor belt, life-giving floating tissue or a primordial soup, which keeps the body going and is passed on from mother to child, the cycle of fertility – to be bound by blood.
The exhibition is a visualisation of the blood circulation and some of the hormone cells, which, via the blood are pumped around the body and dramatically affects the condition of the body.
They are called battle hormones – adrenalin and cortisol. They are synthesised by cells of the adrenal gland and are shipped out into the circulatory system, where they assist the sympathetic nervous system in preparing the body for battle.
Status is PULS is an installation, which envelops the viewer in a circuit, the exhibition points at high pulse, stress, as being a bodily condition, but also as a general condition in society.
